Subject: New setup

Hi Tom,

A new setup = new wiring issues. Have KFlop + Kanalog + Konnect

My AC servos

->InputMode=ENCODER_MODE;

->OutputMode=CL_STEP_DIR_MODE;

Encoders to Kanalog JP1 from X/Y/Z/A

Question: Z puls to be connected where as JP5 on KFlop is occupied for S/D or can step/dir be setup in Konnect and still use JP2 on Kanalog for Z?

Question:  Have MPG 5V, where to connect

Cheers

Bengt

Missed that there is also encoder on Spindle.

Hi Bengt,

Konnect doesn't have any Step/Dir outputs.

You might connect the Z index inputs to KFLOP JP6 as single ended signals (Use JP4 for Konnect).

If you need the noise immunity of differential signals you would need to add external differential receivers.

Do you need the Z index inputs?  They are not necessarily required unless you require higher homing repeatability.

What type of MPG do you have?  Usually the single ended TTL AB signals can be connected to JP6 hardware if the outputs do not drive hard above 3.8V.

MPG switches can probably be connected to Konnect.

Your Spindle might be connected to JP6 as well (mux the JP5 Encoder inputs to JP6).  Although again these are single ended inputs and shouldn't be driven hard above 3.8V (this is usually not a problem).

Hi Tom,

MPG = last file in my folder a pdf file, 5V to 3.3V converter.

If I need the Z puls for homeing, yes I think it would be helpful.

I will try to list all functions to I/O's

Hi Tom,

Enclosed a complete list of connections, can you have a look and see if all is OK please.

How can we handle IO29 to IO35 = do not drive hard above 3.8V, what do I have to do here?

Cheers

Hi Bengt,

I find your format very confusing :)

From what I can tell the only problem I see is that the 4 Encoder inputs on KFLOP JP6 are in AB Pairs. For example IO26 and IO27 form an encoder input AB pair (Encoder Input Channel #4). And IO28 and IO29 form an encoder input AB pair (Encoder Input Channel #5). You can not connect to AB signals of different encoder inputs. So you need to reorder the assignments.

To check if your TLL signals are greater than 3.8V use a voltmeter and check the levels when high when driving a 150ohm load to GND.

Hi Tom,

Format is clear as mud ;)

Corrected Encoder inputs on JP6
I/O #   JP6 Signal name
Aux #1 Cable#/pin#

IO26_3V MPG 5   ← #5 ch A
IO27_3V MPG 6   ← #6 ch B

IO28_3V 7 →PWM to VFD
IO29_3V 10 ← Spindle ch Z

IO30_3V Spindle 11 ← Spindle ch A
IO31_3V Spindle 12 ← Spindle ch B

IO32_3V 13 ← (X) Z+
IO33_3V 14 ← (Y) Z+

IO34_3V 15 ← (Z) Z+
IO35_3V 16 ← (A) Z+

Question
JP5 and RJ45 cable, how long cable can I have to connection block from KFlop?
As there is no shield provided on KFlop RJ45 connector I can connect shielding on the block side if need be.
I need 1.5 to 2m cable if possible, makes life a lot easier to route cables.

Will measure voltages later today.

Cheers
Bengt

Hi Bengt,

That pinout now looks reasonable to me.

I would think 2m cable would be ok.  I forget if your drives can accept quadrature mode.  If so use that as it doesn't involve short pulses.

Hi Tom,

From Servo manual

Input form of external pulse:
0:Direction + pulse,logic is positive
1:Direction + pulse,logic is negative
2:AB is orthogonal,logic is positive
3:AB is orthogonal,logic is negative

Settings so far has been 1 = Direction + pulse, logic is negative and ch 4.

So now I set to 2 and change Output channel to 20.

Enclosed screen dumps and page from manual. I assume I´m in the right ballpark with my tuning?

Cheers
Bengt
